Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Inter’s comeback against Dynamo Kiev in November 2009 was the catalyst to clinching the Champions League and a historic treble that season.
Mourinho was in charge at the San Siro for two seasons from 2008 to 2010 and recalls the comeback the Nerazzurri made that night, coming from 1-0 down at half-time to win the game 2-1 with late goals from Diego Milito and Wesley Sneijder.
“I will never forget those sad faces during the interval, I kicked everything around the dressing room,” Mourinho told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I don’t want to see you crying like children, if we must lose I want you to give everything, I want courage and not whining.
“Then we talked about tactics and we got ready to play with three defenders and then two.
“I remember their faces when I said we will play with two defenders, they thought I was crazy.
“It was incredible we had to score two goals to avoid being eliminated, but we did it, it was a very tough group.”
