Rafa-Benitez-turista-a-NapoliNapoli coach Rafael Benitez and team president Aurelio De Laurentiis will meet in the coming days to discuss the club and the team’s current objectives.

One item that will be on the agenda for the two will be a new contract for the Spanish coach. With Benitez’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season, De Laurentiis is hoping to avoid the same situation he experienced with former coach Walter Mazzarri.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport has reported, the Spaniard is interested in returning to England after this season to continue his coaching career. Benitez was rumoured to be on the shortlist of English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur during the summer prior to Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment.

Speaking to Talksport last June, Benitez opened up about his desire to return to England for not only coaching reasons, but also family reasons.

“I’m really pleased with the Napoli fans, the city, the club, the press – everything is fine there, but my family is living here [England],”Benitez stated.

“My daughters are in school, they have to go to university here, so my idea is in the future to come back. But still I will say I’m really pleased with things in Italy and I have to say thank you to them because they’re supporting me all the time.

“But in the end you never know. I have also been asked about going back to Spain, but obviously my family is in England.”

Benitez led Napoli to a third place finish last season and helped the club to their second Coppa Italia trophy in three years.
