New Parma recruit Andrea Costa has said that he hopes to start playing immediately at his new club.

The 28-year-old native of Reggio Emilia signed a contract which will tie him to the Gialloblu until 2018, having fallen out of favour under coach Sinisa Mihajlovic at Sampdoria.

Speaking upon signing, Costa said that he sees himself “in the role of the central defender”, as well as explaining why he chose Parma.

“I see myself in the role of a central defender,” he said. “However, I can play at fullback as well if necessary.

“I grew up in Reggiana and I know my history, I chose Parma with conviction because it is a growing company.

“At Sampdoria, I was on the hinges [of the starting XI] following the arrival of Mihajlovic, but I am here now, and I am ready to play immediately.

“I have found a group where I felt welcomed immediately; it is a unit made up of players full of desire, ready to repeat the success of last season.”

It is also worth mentioning that Costa featured 59 times over three seasons for Samp, netting two goals in the process.
