Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has arrived in Rome to undergo a medical ahead of a deadline day move to Roma.

The French international arrived in Fiumenco airport earlier today.

Speaking to members of the media who had gathered in the airport he said “I am very happy to arrive in Rome.

“I couldn’t wait to arrive,” the Frenchman continued.

“I have already spoken with Rudi Garcia on the phone.

“I am ready. Forza Roma.”

Roma have been busy this mercato adding strength in depth to their squad as they prepare to negotiate Serie A and Champions League football.

The 25-year-old made 37 Premier League appearances in his 18-months at St James’ Park but has decided to make the move to the Giallorossi and play in the Champions League.
