Sampdoria striker Stefano Okaka expressed his ambition to be called up for Antonio Conte’s Italy squad after scoring against Torino in Sunday’s early kick off.

The 25 year-old scored his side’s second goal in their 2-0 victory at the Stadio Marassi and is full of confidence for the campaign ahead.

“We played a great match and we’re very happy,” the striker told Mediaset Premium following his side’s victory.

“Torino played well but we were truly excellent. I’m ready for the national team now, I’m ready for everything.

“There was a great atmosphere today, the fans were fantastic and it was a great win.

There’s a real enthusiasm around the club at the moment thanks to the new president and we are enjoying ourselves.”

Okaka had hit the headlines recently by criticizing Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, but wanted to clarify his position today.

“I haven’t been critical about him, he is one of my friends” said the striker. “I always say what I think. Now he has gone to England and I hope he does well.”

After sealing a win for Sampdoria today, Okaka’s club now have four points from their opening two Serie A fixtures.
