After Sampdoria’s 1-0 win against Genoa Sunday evening in the Derby della Lanterna, midfielder Angelo Palombo feels that his side should not get too comfortable as there is still a long season ahead of them.

Italian youngster Manolo Gabbiadini scored the only goal of the derby for the Blucerchiati securing his side’s win at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday evening.

“In a team there is competition and it is right that there is, so we are happy,” the 33-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

“We won the derby but the season is still long. This game should give us belief but should not make us feel satisfied.

“If we do not win next Sunday, the derby victory means nothing. We will celebrate tonight, then begin thinking about Atalanta on Tuesday.”

The midfielder was then asked about his role in the team, as before Sinisa Mihajlovic took over he was being asked to play as a central defender.

“It is normal for me to adapt, but I don’t have the physique to be a defender. Now I can breathe a breath of fresh air because the midfield is the role that I have played all my life. I felt trapped in defense.”
