New Genoa signing Mauricio Pinilla believes his team weren’t deserving of their 2-1 season opening loss to Napoli on Sunday and insists they’re on the right track to success.

Although upset with the result, the 30-year-old striker feels that the Grifone learned important lessons during their last minute defeat to the Partenopei and is convinced that the club will move forward with confidence while showing their ability to compete with Italy’s top teams.

Pinilla spoke to the press after Genoa’s home loss to Napoli and expressed his positive outlook following the poor result.

“We had some beautiful emotions, the atmosphere throughout the stadium was super,” said the Chilean international, who scored his side’s only goal in his Serie A debut for them.

“I just regret how it ended, but I don’t think we deserved the defeat. However, this meeting has left something important with us.

“We have the confidence to show our potential and play good football and continue on the right track. We will be even more convincing as the season continues.”
