Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti reportedly held talks with the agent of Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic, but a potential move was blocked by the Nerazzurri.

The coach of Los Blancos attempted to initiate a move before the World Cup but the Croatian international was deemed too important by the Milan club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona also sent enquiries towards Inter before the World Cup but were told categorically by club president Erick Thohir that the player was unavailable for transfer.

The 20-year-old is contracted to Walter Mazzarri’s side for another three years and the club have no intention of selling their prized asset.

Kovacic is yet to score a league goal for Inter after making 46 Serie A appearances.
