Roma defeated Hellas Verona 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening in Serie A.

Alessandro Florenzi gave Roma the lead in the 75th minute before Mattia Destro finished things off late on with an audacious long-range volley.

The Giallorossi started brightly, and minutes into the first half they were close to scoring when Maicon’s curled strike went inches over the bar.

Roma came agonisingly close to taking the lead through Destro who latched onto a Maicon cross but his header went wide of the far post.

Juanito could’ve put the visitors ahead minutes later when he went through on goal, but the Argentine’s weak finish was parried away by Morgan De Sanctis.

However, it was Roma who had the best chance of the half when Vangelis Moras made an error while trying to clear Adem Ljajic’s cross, but Francesco Totti failed to wrap his foot around the ball.

De Sanctis was again forced into action by Juanito, with former Napoli goalkeeper preventing Verona from taking the lead.

Totti came close to scoring in the start of the second half when he latched onto a cross from Maicon before unleashing a strike which was tipped over the bar by Pierluigi Gollini.

The capital club once again came close to putting themselves in the lead, however Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa’s towering header went centimetres wide of the post.

Miralem Pjanic came close to breaking the Gialloblu’s resilient defending when he dribbled past Rafael Marques before crossing into the box, however Moras managed to clear the ball.

Panagiotis Tachtsidis could’ve given Hellas Verona the lead against his former side with a free-kick, but his attempted cross went wide of the post.

Rudi Garcia’s men finally broke the deadlock with 15 minutes remaining through substitute Alessandro Florenzi whose thunderous strike found the bottom corner.

Florenzi could’ve scored his second of the night five minutes later, but his finish slammed against the crossbar.

Destro sealed the win late on for the Giallorossi with an outstanding long-range volley which found the back of the net.
