Roma defender Davide Astori will be out for two to three weeks due to ligament damage to his right knee.

The 27-year-old picked up the injury towards the end of the Giallorossi’s 5-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Roma confirmed that Astori has undergone scans which revealed a right knee sprain with damage to the collateral medial ligament.

The former Cagliari defender has already started with his physiotherapy as he looks to recover from the injury but it is expected that it will take at least two to three weeks before he is able the take to the pitch.

Astori’s absence is worrying for the Lupi as fellow defenders Leandro Castan and Kostas Manolas are not fully fit, thus it is expected that new signing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa will start when the Giallorossi take on Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico on September 21.

Astori made 34 appearances in Serie A for Cagliari during the 2013-14 season and has featured in two Serie A fixtures and one Champions League game for Roma at the start of the 2014-15 campaign.
