Roma are reportedly considering a move for Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

The 25 year old defender is expected to provide additional cover in the centre-back role, given the departure of key defender Mehdi Benatia to Bayern Munich.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Roma want to take the French defender on loan, with the option to buy the former Montpellier man outright for €5 million at the end of the season.

The Giallorossi have already signed Kostas Manolas, as well as Davide Astori from Cagliari, but coach Rudi Garcia is further seeking to bolster his squad for the new season.

Yanga-Mbiwa has made 37 Premier League appearances for Newcastle since his move from Montpellier in January 2013.
