Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has revealed that the capital city club are monitoring the situation of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot and have no plans to sell Kevin Strootman.

The Giallorossi have been steadily linked with a move for Rabiot since the summer and are apparently looking to secure his services in January while battling with other pursuing teams including Juventus and Arsenal, though the Lupi are seen as the favourites to land him.

Sabatini spoke to Sky Sport Italia about the PSG youngster and Roma’s intentions to keep Manchester United target Kevin Strootman, while also commenting on the situations of Maicon and Ashley Cole.

“Rabiot is someone who we like, but the mess with Paris Saint-Germain is not being caused by us,” said the sporting director.

“We’re observing him, so we’ll see what happens in the future.

“Strootman? We will not sell him, he’s important to us and we plan on keeping him at this club.

“Cole as a starter? This is a physiologic choice, he had some difficulties at the beginning but is now recovering.

“We had also signed Jose Holebas to take over for Federico Balzaretti after he was injured, so we wanted to cover that role with three players.

“Maicon? He has always been a champion and still is a champions, I wish there was more respect for him. He has often taken the field in poor physical condition, and we cannot thank him enough.”
