Sampdoria defeated Torino 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Serie A in the early Sunday afternoon game.

It was a rather slow-tempo match and the Doriani took their chances in the final third. Sampdoria now has four points for the season and Torino still have the one point only.

Did we get our ratings right? Have your say in the comments below.

Sampdoria

Emiliano Viviano – 6 – Quiet

The former Arsenal goalkeeper was not particularly busy and he was not required to make any breathtaking saves.

Lorenzo De Silvestri – 5.5 – Suspect

A decent contribution offensively but he gave Toro too much space to attack down their left-wing.

Matias Silvestre – 7.5 – Wall

One of his best Serie A games in a long time. Read the play well and cleared the ball with ease. Passed the ball to Okaka which resulted in Doria’s second goal.

Daniele Gastaldello – 6.5 – Solid

A solid display from the Sampdoria captain. It was like Silvestre and he had played together for years. Replaced by Romagnoli near the end of the game.

Fabrizio Cacciatore – 7 – Surprising

A right-back out of position, it was hard to notice based on this performance.  He doesn’t not have De Silvestri’s pace but he did well defensively and he was capable of passing long or short.

Roberto Soriano – 7 – Ever-present

He won the free-kick that gave Doria the lead and won another one in the second half which could have increased the margin. Worked hard and used the ball well.

Angelo Palombo – 6.5 – Reliable

Another solid performance from the former Sampdoria captain. Dictated the play in the middle of the park.

Pedro Obiang – 7 – Revived

Back to his best with his ball-winning abilities and his ball distribution was short and neat.

Manolo Gabbiadini – 6.5 – Decisive

He opened the scoring with a low curling free-kick and he hit the crossbar with another one. He squandered a chance from long-range when he had acres of space.

Stefano Okaka – 6.5 – Tower

Struggled to deal with Glik early on in the game but he was able to hold onto the ball when possible. Clearly outmuscled Moretti as he ran in to score Doria’s second goal.

Eder – 5.5 – Adequate

The Brazilian forward had little space to work with and he didn’t work as hard as he usually would. His dribbles weren’t successful.

Substitutes

Nenad Krsticic – 5

He came on with 15 minutes remaining but he didn’t have much of the ball.

Gonzalo Bergessio – No vote

Another substitute appearance from the Argentine centre-forward and he made little impact.

Alessio Romagnoli – No vote

The youngster came on to make his debut for the Doriani but little was required of him.

Torino

Daniele Padelli – 5.5 – Flawed

Torino’s goalkeeper dealt with crosses and shots that went straight at him but he could have saved both goals.

Cesare Bovo – 5 – Silenced

Received a yellow card for a foul on Eder in the first half and barely did anything else worth noting.

Kamil Glik – 5 – Rough

The Polish centre-back was his usual uncompromising self and earned a yellow card for fouling Soriano. Allowed the loose ball to pass him when Okaka was shrugging off Moretti for the goal.

Emiliano Moretti – 5 – Overpowered

An average game in general from the former Genoa defender and he was unable to control the powerful Okaka for Sampdoria’s second goal.

Nikola Maksimovic – 5 – Mediocre

The Serbian made some good short passes on the right flank but his crosses were poor and did not make any dashing runs on the wing. Went quiet in the second half.

Antonio Nocerino – 4.5 – Ineffective

The former AC Milan midfielder probably complained more to the referee than anything else. Needed to add drive to Toro’s midfield and he failed to do so.

Giuseppe Vives – 6 – Solid

Kept the play ticking in midfield whenever Torino had possession and he had a couple of long-range efforts which did not hit the target.

Omar El Kaddouri – 6.5 – Inventive

Provided some invention in Torino midfield which looked slow and predictable.

Cristian Molinaro – 5.5 – Average

Provided width and drive on the left flank the first half but he was quiet in the second half before he was replaced by Darmian.

Marcelo Larrondo – 4.5 – Bewildered

Barely did anything of note and he struggled to combine with Quagliarella in attack.

Fabio Quagliarella – 5.5 – Tricky

Struggled in the first half to evade the Sampdoria defence but he was more inventive in the second half. His shooting needs to be more accurate though.

Substitutes

Matteo Darmian – 6

He replaced Molinaro at left wing-back and he looked lively and inventive. One of Toro’s few sparks in the game.

Amauri – 5.5

An average debut from the former Parma forward who provided a physical presence and an aerial threat but he could not get a clear shot away.

Josef Martinez – No vote

The young Ecuadorian forward made a bit of a presence but he couldn’t test Viviano or the Doria defenders.
