Sampdoria director Carlo Osti is unsure whether he will try again for River Plate defender Eder Balanta when the transfer market re-opens.

The Colombian international was a known target for Sampdoria during the summer, before they eventually plumped for Alessio Romagnoli and Matias Silvestre instead.

The difficulty in getting a deal done due to Balanta being owned by several different agencies was a key factor in Osti admitting defeat over a bid to sign him.

“We have long sought to buy him, despite the difficulties associated with the purchase of a player who had split his registration among many investors and funds,” Ostil toldĀ Sampdorianews.it.

“It was not easy also because he was also offered to other Italian and European clubs. We were not able to buy him, but we also had other objectives.

“In the future, I do not know, we’ll see in January. If it is possible to take Balanta, we are ready to act.

“We are also following other young players of quality. This is the policy of Sampdoria’s future.”
