Sassuolo and Sampdoria played out to a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Citta del Tricolore on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

The away side had more possession but the majority of the chances fell the way of Sassuolo who found it difficult to beat Emiliano Viviano in the Sampdoria goal.

The home side started off the brighter when Antonio Floro Flores let fly from the edge of the box in the opening minutes but the ball flew a few yards wide.

Then Francesco Magnanelli had his stinging effort from 25 yards out well saved by Viviano who sprung to his right to palm away.

The Blucerchiati responded on the 20th minute mark in what was the closest the two teams came to a goal in the first half. A well worked move finished with Pedro Obiang playing the ball to Stefano Okaka who laid off to Eder and his effort whistled past the post.

On the stroke of half-time Saphir Taider tried his luck from outside the box but the ball sailed over the bar and the two teams went into half-time level.

On the hour mark the Neroverdi had a great chance to take the lead through Matteo Brighi. The midfielder won the ball in the opposition’s half and passed to Floro Flores who then returned it back to Brighi and from ten yards out he dragged his shot wide.

The game was full of unnecessary fouls, thus the game kept stopping and starting with neither team able to get any flow going and have any serious attempts at the opposition goal.

It was Samp who dominated possession in the second half but the away side could not mount any efforts on Sassuolo’s goal.

Ten minutes from time, Sergio Floccari played a one-two with Nicola Sansone and rounded the defender but his powerful strike towards the centre of the goal was well saved by Viviano.

In the end both teams cancelled each other out and the game finished as a stalemate which on the basis of the match was the fair result.
