New Hellas Verona signing Javier Saviola has expressed his gratitude towards his new employers and thanked the Mastini supporters.

The Argentine forward was a surprise deadline day arrival from Greek champions Olympiacos and he has taken the No. 7 upon his arrival at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. The shirt had been left vacant by the departure of Samuele Longo.

“A thank you to the fans. We want to have a great season and have fun with our football,” the 32 year old wrote on Twitter.

“I want to thank Hellas Verona for the confidence they had in me. Hopefully we can have a big season and entertain the fans.”

The transfer represents something of a coup for Verona who have taken to signing experienced former internationals in recent seasons. Saviola joins his old Barcelona teammate Rafael Márquez and former Nazionale hitman Luca Toni in the Gialloblu ranks.

He had previously played for such clubs as Barcelona, Real Madrid and River Plate.
