With a midweek round of Serie B, the teams were all back in action this weekend for the sixth round.

Varese moved up to 18th place in the table after they beat Trapani 5-2 at the Stadio Franco Ossola.

The Leopardi were 4-0 up at half-time in a pulsating half, thanks to goals from Angelo Rea, Neto Pereira, Leonardo Capezzi and a penalty from Arturo Lupoli.

The away side appeared to be attempting a second-half comeback when Matteo Mancosu converted a penalty in the 58th minute and then Enis Nadarevic made it 4-2 just eight minutes later.

Ten minutes from time Andrea Barberis added another for the home team, to put the game out of doubt.

In stoppage time the frustration proved too much for Antonino Barilla who was shown a straight red and Varese held out for a vital win.

Perugia continued their flawless start to the season by beating Brescia 1-0 and increasing their lead at the top of the table to three points thanks to a penalty from Rodrigo Taddei in the 79th minute.

Brescia were reduced to ten men in injury time when Ruben Olivera received a second yellow card.

Elsewhere, newly promoted Virtus Entella earned their first win of the season after an impressive 2-0 win against Carpi.

Efforts in each half from Cesar and Michele Troiano ensured the Diavoli Neri got off the bottom of the table.

Bologna moved up to fourth place after they defeated ten-man Cittadella 1-0 at the Stadio Renato Dell’Ara.

Karim Laribi who is on loan from Sassuolo scored the all-important goal in the opening minute and Andrea Signorini was dismissed for Citta.

Moving up into second place was Avellino after a late winner ensured they defeated Livorno 2-1.

An own goal in the 15th minute from Luca Bittante put the away side 1-0 up going into half-time, but the Lupi equalised on the hour mark through Luigi Castaldo.

Then, in the 89th minute, Gianmario Comi got on the scoresheet to wrap up a win for the home side and putting them into second place.

Serie B newcomers Pro Vercelli got a 1-1 draw with Frosinone, the team who thrashed Virtus Lanciano 5-1 away last week.

The away side took the lead in the first half through Daniel Ciofani but then his team-mate Gaetano Masucci was dismissed.

Pro Vercelli then equalised through Ronaldo Pompeu but despite 22 efforts on goal, the home side couldn’t press on to win.

In other matches, Modena defeated Spezia 2-0 thanks to quick-fire efforts in the 69th and 70th minute from Andrea Schiavone and Pablo Granoche.

An injury-time equaliser from Fabio Ceravolo denied Latina a 1-0 win against Ternana after Riccardo Brosco put the home side in front earlier in the half.

There was one 0-0 draw as Crotone and Vicenza cancelled each other out, with the former being reduced to ten men when Fabio Sciacca saw red.
