The Ukrainian also paid tribute to the work done on the Milan bench by Inzaghi’s predecessor Clarence Seedorf and ‘Sheva’ also offered his thoughts on the sale of Mario Balotelli to Liverpool.

“He [Seedorf] put lots of things back together during his time back at Milan and the situation wasn’t easy,” said Shevchenko to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Clarence took the risk and that’s right for somebody in a new job: it was a step forward for him and he now has experience that you can’t get from coaching the kids.”

“Defeats are part of any job and they’re in the record books but I wouldn’t speak about failure.”

Shevchenko spoke more about the excitement at the club created by Inzaghi’s work as coach and the 3-1 opening day win over Lazio.

“I wish him all the best to get through the season in the best way possible,” the Ukrainian said.

“He has started well at San Siro and I can feel the enthusiasm.

“Pippo had everything as a player, he has the knowledge to lead a team

“Whether he wins or loses is an issue that depends on many different factors but I hope he also has a splendid career as a coach.”

The retired Ukrainian striker also said he felt it was right for Balotelli to leave the Diavolo but he wished the 24-year-old well in England.

“If neither him or Milan were happy together then it was the right decision to separate.

“Balotelli deserves another chance and Liverpool will give him that.

“They’re a great team and it’s up to him to overcome his difficulties and put his destiny back in his own hands.”
