Udinese coach Andrea Stramaccioni has insisted that his priority is to ensure that the club will be playing Serie A football next season, not qualifying for European football.

Despite a lowly 13th finish last term, some Friuli fans still harbour ambitions of a finish in one of Italy’s prized European spots, though Stramaccioni downplayed those expectations.

“European ambitions? According to me this team should aspire for safety and any other talk is out of place,” the 38-year-old responded on Twitter through #askstrama.

“We have three difficult matches and and in football opinions can change rapidly.”

Udinese started the season off with a 2-0 victory at home to newly-promoted side Empoli.
