Highly-rated Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is keen on a switch to Manchester United, either in January or the summer, according to reports.

The Dutch international has been a top target for the Premier League club for a long time and interest has said to have intensified since Louis Van Gaal’s arrival as manager. Van Gaal is an admirer of Strootman and is believed to be eyeing up a January swoop for him.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Strootman has his heart set on a move to Manchester United and has ditched his agent to link up with Kes Vos, Robin Van Persie’s agent, and has instructed his new adviser to broker a deal to Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United’s plans for a potential deal may be scuppered as Roma are rumoured to want up to €70 million for the 24-year-old. Van Gaal already spent heavily in the summer and it is doubtful that he would match the fee spent on Angel Di Maria.

It is widely believed that Strootman wants the move to happen, but has so far remained tight-lipped about his future with the fear of upsetting Roma’s hardcore ultras.
