Following his disappointing, short-lived stint with English Premier League side Southampton, Saphir Taider’s agent has spoken to the media to clarify the player’s return to Serie A.

Taider had joined Southampton on loan as part of the deal that sent Pablo Osvaldo to Inter. But after making only one pre-season appearance for the English club, Taider’s loan was cancelled and he was sent back to the Nerazzurri. However, Taider was loaned out again shortly thereafter, this time to Sassuolo.

According to L’Equipe, Taider has returned to Italy for personal reasons which led to his inability to settle in England.

“He still has a lot to learn, but his qualities cannot be questioned,” stated agent George Atangana.

“Ronald Koeman wanted him, there were daily contacts between Inter and Southampton. We also talked by phone with his staff about the project.

“But then for personal reasons and by mutual agreement between the parties, Saphir has decided to return to Italy. In the end, he had four proposals on the table and he chose Sassuolo. He is happy.”

Taider played 25 times for Inter last season, but was deemed surplus to requirements by Walter Mazzarri.
