FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio has set out his plans to revitalise Italian football which centre around three main areas of reform.

The controversial head of the football association has spoken of his desire to revive Italian football following his election and Italy’s failure at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

According to La Stampa, Tavecchio wants Serie A to be reduced from 20 to 18 teams for the start of the 2016-17 season and Serie B to be reduced from 22 to 20 sides.

The other two elements of the plan are designed to reduce the percentage of foreign players in the Italian league.

One of the reforms would force teams to line up with a minimum of four Italians, with the intention of extending the quota to six in the future.

Tavecchio is also eager to bring in a committee tasked with evaluating the merits of non-EU players before they can be registered by their clubs.
