Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni has revealed his side suffered in their second Serie A match at home to Palermo.

The 37 year-old target man scored a penalty to level the scores in the first half with Juanito Gomez bagging the winner.

Speaking to the press after the match Toni stressed the importance of getting their first win in front of the home fans.

“It was important to get a result, it was our first game at home and we wanted the three points against a direct rival,” he said.

“We had many difficulties, we did not have a great game and had a very bad start but we recovered.”

Verona have lost a number of key players since last season including Romulo, Jorginho and Juan Manuel Iturbe.

“We have 15 new players who don’t know the league but I think we have a good mixing of youth and experience,” he continued.

“Our coach is good with young players and I think that could prove vital.”

Toni has met the Rosanero eight times since leaving in 2005 but has only scored twice in those meetings.
