Jean Francois Gillet was pleased with the point Torino earned on Thursday night as they opened their Europa League group stage with a draw against Club Brugge in Belgium.

The Belgium international was making his first appearance for Torino for over a year and felt that a draw was a worthwhile result in tricky circumstances.

“We have started the Europa League well and it was a good point on a difficult pitch,” he told Mediaset Premium.

Gillet pointed to the fact that this was an inexperienced Torino line up in many ways, making the result that much more gratifying.

“For many it was their European debut and the defence was unusual. It wasn’t easy for them but they were great.

“We have a wide range of competitions (this season) and will give it our all to go as far as possible on all fronts.”

The 35-year-old stopper was also pleased with his own performance on his reintroduction to the side following a ban in 2013 for his role in suspected match fixing.

“I have always worked hard for a return. I am at a good point and hope to have some minutes to get back to my level.”
