Roma captain Francesco Totti thinks rivals Juventus have gotten better since last season, and are still the top team in Italy.

Ahead of the Giallorossi’s big Champions League clash with Manchester City on Tuesday, Totti also has high hopes his team can do well on the continent after an absence from major European competition.

“Juve are the champions, [have] not sold and even strengthened,” Totti told Bein Sport

“We are, at this moment, the second team, the one to beat is Juve. Although we know we have great potential.

“Everyone expected the same as last year, so did we. We have a large group, have purchased major players and we have a competitive squad. As fans and journalists, we also expect a great Rome this year.”

Totti, 38, expects to do well in multiple competitions this year: “Scudetto, Champions League and Coppa Italia for sure. Though the latter is less important, it is only a cup.

“It was exciting to play in the Champions League. We knew we would face a tough match on paper. Instead, on the field it was much simpler.”

Roma won 2-0 over Hellas Verona on Saturday, with Totti playing 68 minutes.
