Trapani staged an impressive comeback to draw 2-2 on the road at the Stadio Sandro Cabassi and grab second place in Serie B against an undisciplined Carpi side on Friday night.

Trapani coach Roberto Boscaglia unveiled a new 4-3-2-1 formation but were pinned back by an aggressive Biancorossi side who buzzed around Trapani goalkeeper Richard Marcone’s net and forced the Romanian keeper to make a pair of excellent saves before scoring two quick goals inside the first 20 minutes.

Defender Ricardo Gagliolo got the home side on the score sheet with a well placed shot in the first quarter hour and five minutes later Antonio Di Gaudio picked up the ball at the midfield stripe and ran straight at the Granata defense before hitting a right-footed curler past a helpless Marcone.

The visitors appeared to catch their breath from the sudden onslaught, began possessing the ball and were rewarded when Matteo Scozzarella looped a cross in over the top of the sleepy Carpi defense and Antonino Barilla waltzed in to tap in Scozzarella’s lovely pass just past the half hour mark.

Immediately after the second half whistle, on loan Genoa midfielder Enis Nadarevic headed in a cross from deep down the right touch line to level the match.

Carpi’s indiscipline then proved to be their undoing and the side were lucky to come away with a draw after a pair of ejections.

Goal scorer Gagliolo needlessly and viciously elbowed Filippo Falco inside of the 20 minute as the two went up for an aerial challenge and at the close of the match it was Lorenzo Pasciuti’s purposeful elbow to stop a last second Trapani attack which typified the home side’s frustration.

Both sides remain unbeaten though the draw certainly favors the Sicilians who will be smiling as they head back to Erice with a point in hand and a point out of first place.

Meanwhile, Spezia easily dispatched Virtus Entella 1-0 at the Stadio Alberto Picco and the scoreline flattered the visitors as Entella were completely outclassed and dominated in all phases of the match.

Spezia finally made their advantage in possession and class pay off when Andrea Catellani scored his first of the season from a corner late in the first half.

A listless Biancocelesti side had no answers and are finding life difficult in their maiden season in Serie B; the Chiavari side only have a single point through the first four matches are rooted at the bottom of the table having only scored once.
