Carlo TavecchioUEFA President Michael Platini has confirmed that UEFA will be investigating the controversial and racist statements made prior to the election of FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio.

At the recent Diversity Respect Conference held in Rome, Platini remarked that due to the political situation surrounding the situation, he would not be able to personally comment on the alleged racist comments made by Tavecchio.

However, despite kept his personal opinions out of the matter, Platini did confirm that Tavecchio’s conduct would be investigated by the governing body of European soccer.

“They were phrases that generated shock and disapproval,” Platini stated. “UEFA has decided to open an investigation and it is not up to me to vouch about it.”

Before Tavecchio was voted into his current position he landed himself in hot water by calling foreign players ‘banana eaters’.
