Torino coach Giampiero Ventura conceded that his side did not deserve to beat Sampdoria in Sunday’s early kick off at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Ventura’s side fell to a 2-0 defeat following goals from Manolo Gabbiadini and Stefano Okaka and the Granata showed little threat going forward.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the match, the 66-year-old admitted that his side would have been lucky to come away with a positive result.

“I have to say that Sampdoria deserved the win because they showed more desire than us,” he explained. “It’s true what they say – whoever wants it the most will win.”

“At the end of the game we had 21 players in their half but every ball we played into the box was cleared by a Sampdoria player because they showed more hunger.”

Moving forward, meanwhile, the coach believed that the game could prove to be a turning point for his side.

“It could be an important match for us because it shows that you cannot take anything for granted,” he said. “We need to be smart in analysing this game because we can play a lot better than we did today.”

“I still retain that we’re a good side, but we need to fight for every ball over the course of the 90 minutes. That’s what football is all about and the moment that you give anything less you’re going to suffer.”
