Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti believes that the Biscione will be motivated to make their way into the Champions League and do well next season now that the final will be held at the San Siro.

The 41-year-old admits that he’s proud to see Milan chosen as the host city for the Champions League final in 2016 and he insists that the Italian city will do everything possible to make sure the competition is honoured in the proper way.

Zanetti spoke to Inter Channel about the Nerazzurri’s chances of possibly making it to the tournament’s final next term and reflected on his own memories of lifting the Champions League trophy with Inter during the 2009-10 season.

“This is a matter of pride for the entire city,” said the vice-president. “We will work hard to accommodate this competition in an exemplary manner for those who will participate in the final.

“I think that we as Inter will do everything with the city of Milan to honour this most prestigious and important competition.

“The Champions League trophy will always be a part of my memories. To raise the trophy as captain along with our fans will remain indelible, above all for the fans who were in Madrid to witness it, but also for those who were watching from Milan.

“Inter in the final in 2016? It will be a good stimulus for the boys, but you have to go slow. We are creating a team that wants to return to being a protagonist and we hope that this is a sign of good luck.”
