AC Milan defender Cristian Zapata admits that a positive result in the Diavolo’s upcoming match against Chievo would be important due to the team’s inconsistent performances in recent matches.

The Rossoneri will be hosting the Flying Donkeys at the San Siro on Saturday and the 28-year-old has insisted that Filippo Inzaghi’s men will not be dwelling on their past mistakes as they prepare to stage a comeback after failing to win in their past three games.

Zapata spoke to Milan Channel on his birthday on Tuesday about how he’ll be celebrating his special day and commented on his mission to continue giving his all for AC Milan.

“I’m happy to be celebrating another birthday at a great club like this and as a gift I hope we can win Saturday evening,” said the Colombian international, who will reportedly miss the match with Chievo after receiving a suspension for a red card he picked up during Milan’s 1-1 draw with Cesena on September 28.

“I’ll be celebrating today in training and then continue festivities afterwards with my wife and daughter. After training I plan on having some pastries, maybe even with Andrea Poli whose birthday was yesterday.

“We had an excellent first half in Cesena. We played a great game, but the intensity had been lowered in the second half.

“The important thing now is to not let ourselves go under for our past errors because then it will make everything more difficult.

“During these first five games of the season I’ve tried to give my maximum because I want to do well this year. I’m giving my all.

“Saturday night’s meeting with Chievo will be a very important match for us.”
