Cagliari coach Zdenek Zeman has claimed that his former side Roma have now bridged the gap with Juventus and that to return to the capital this weekend will be “like going home.”

The Rossoblu travel to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Rudi Garcia’s side on Sunday, a fixture that marks the veteran Czech’s first return to his old club since leaving the Giallorossi in February 2013.

“Sunday will be like going home for me,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Garcia is a good coach and it has showed. This year he also has a more competitive team. The gap with Juventus has been bridged.

“They have the strongest attack in Serie A although [goalkeeper Morgan] De Sanctis has had to make a few more saves.”

Roma lost star defender Mehdi Benatia over the summer, and have since replaced him with Kostas Manolas from Olympiacos and Davide Astori from Zeman’s Cagliari.

“They have replaced Benatia well. Astori arrived at the start of pre-season and he is really good.”

The Sardinians have earned praise for their playing style this season but only have a point from the opening game at Sassuolo to show for their efforts so far.

“We did not deserve to lose against Atalanta. We made so many passes like Barcelona, but we’re still trying to learn.

“To take our chances against Roma we have to do something more than what we are doing at the moment.”
