abbiatiAC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati has declared that the club’s team spirit is playing a vital role this season, following a comfortable 3-1 victory away from home over Hellas Verona.

A brace from Keisuke Honda followed an own goal scored by Verona’s Rafael Marques to hand the Rossoneri three points as Nicolas Lopez scored a consolation goal towards the end.

“I think the group and the coach [Filippo Inzaghi] are the two essential things for us,” said the Italian at a post match conference.

“The road is long, but we are doing a good job.

“Today we suffered a bit towards the last 15 minutes as we were too slow, but the most important thing was to win these three important points.”

The 37-year-old was then questioned on his own future, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

“I’m a Milan player and I have been here for years. To choose another team now is impossible for me. I’m not good with another jersey at this point of my career.”

The goalkeeper also shielded his defenders from any criticism they have been receiving lately.

“Do not accuse only the defense department for the goals conceded. In the field there are eleven players,” he concluded.

The win takes Milan to fourth in the Serie A table with 14 points and will entertain Fiorentina next week at the San Siro.
