A disgusted Leonardo Bonucci admitted it was not good enough for Juventus to throw away points in the manner that they did against Genoa on Wednesday night.

The Bianconeri looked to be heading for a draw that would have kept them a point clear of Roma at the top until former striker Alessandro Matri sent the ball across the box for Luca Antonini to scramble it home in the final minute of injury time.

Speaking to the assembled media after the game, the big defender began: “This is football I suppose, we played a good game I felt despite the difficult pitch and playing against an opponent who are always pressurising and never let you relax on the ball.

“We conceded a goal that Juventus simply should not concede. A team like Juventus cannot and should not lose games like this, we should at least leave with a point but not a defeat.”

Indeed, the Italy international believes that on another night, the story could have been different had they managed to take advantage of their openings.

“Again, I think we played well but we were just missing that one winning move in an offensive sense and this is our biggest regret from the game,” Bonucci lamented. “Of course, you do not win or lose the league on a night like tonight.

“But we must learn from this game and show maturity. The pitch? It was not great but we still managed to create chances so this is not an excuse.”
