Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini spoke in an interview about an important turning point in his career that saw him stay in Serie A and snub an English Premier League switch.

Chiellini joined Juventus from Fiorentina in 2005, making 261 appearances for the club since, but did snub a move to England after joining the Bianconeri.

“It could have gone and played in England,” the 30-year-old told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “It could have happened in 2007.

“But I had a destiny with Juventus, otherwise I would have gone to Roma instead as the deal was all done there.”

Chiellini has been a valuable servant of Juventus during his nine-year spell in Turin, rising up the ranks to become a fan-favorite and even securing vice-captaincy.
