Italy national team boss Antonio Conte has revealed that he’s honoured to have earned a nomination for the 2014 FIFA Coach of the Year award.

The 45-year-old, who led Juventus to a third consecutive Scudetto last season before leaving his position to replace Cesare Prandelli at the helm of the Azzurri over the summer, was named as one of the final 10 nominees for the annual award on Tuesday and he admits that he’s pleased to see that his hard work has been recognised.

Conte spoke to the official FIGC website about his nomination and declared that he was happy to see Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti make the list as well, as both attended coaching school at Coverciano in Italy.

“I am honoured to be included as one of the tacticians nominated for the 2014 Coach of the Year award,” said the for Juve boss.

“Because it represents on the one hand a recognition for the work I’ve done, but on the other hand a further incentive to do well at the helm of the national team.

“My candidacy and also that of Carlo Ancelotti also confirms the value of the coaching school at Coverciano, demonstrating that our football is still alive and is able to convey innovative ideas and win.”
