Former Roma forward Marco Delvecchio believes that the Lupi are the strongest team in the Serie A at this time and thinks they have a shot at winning the Scudetto this season.

The Giallorossi currently sit in second place on the league table, tied on 22 points with leaders Juventus, and the 41-year-old is confident in the capital city club’s chances of securing the top spot in Italy as long as they can widen the point gap between them and their pursuers.

Delvecchio spoke to Roma Radio about Roma’s potential to do well this campaign and praised striker Mattia Destro for his quality in front of goal.

“This Roma is superior to all others, this team is more comprehensive than Juventus,” said the Italian, who played at Roma from 1995 until 2005 and helped the team win a Serie A title in the 2000-01 season.

“Destro is strong, every ball that comes his way is turned into a goal. He’s a true centre-forward, one who is dangerous in the penalty area.

“In order to win the Scudetto, Roma need a strong team and at least an eight point lead on the second place team.”
