Luigi Di Biagio ItalyItaly Under-21 coach Luigi Di Biagio has praised his side after qualifying for the European Championship finals, but warns that they are still improving.

The Azzurrini progressed to the 2015 tournament in the Czech Republic by beating Slovakia 4-2 on aggregate in the play-off round after an initial slow start to Group 9 as they suffered defeats to Belgium and Serbia in their first five games.

“We’ve managed a great achievement,” the 43-year-old tactician told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“Qualification for the European Championships is a goal which seemed unthinkable at the start of the campaign, given the quality of our opponents.

“When you think about the fact we started from scratch with a new direction, right now more of our players are playing for their respective clubs, and this gives us optimism.

“However, we can always do better. Now we have two objectives: to get as far as possible in the European Championships and qualify for the next Olympics.”
