Parma coach Roberto Donadoni says that this weekend’s clash with fellow strugglers Sassuolo is an important game for his side as they must play with ‘ferocity’.

The bottom two in Serie A face each other on Saturday evening at 18:00 CET at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, with the game looking like a must-win for both.

“Sassuolo have invested heavily and have very good players,” Donadoni stated at his pre-match press conference as reported by Parmalive.com.

“But we as always, and even more so today, must be focused on ourselves, knowing that we will be facing a team who will do anything to make up ground in the standings.

The Crociati, who finished sixth in Serie A last season, currently sit bottom of the table with just one win from their first seven games, and the 51-year-old coach knows that the game is a very important one for his side.

“For us it is a fundamental game in which we have to pour absolute ferocity to get the result that would take us away somewhat from our predicament. Then we’ll see what fate has in store for us.”

Parma have been hit by injuries this term, with key players such as Gabriel Paletta and Jonathan Biabiany being ruled out for long periods of time, and Chilean midfielder Cristobal Jorquera will now also be missing for several weeks with a thigh strain after being substituted after 20 minutes in last week’s 1-0 defeat at Atalanta.

“I hope there are no more injuries. What Jorquera did on Sunday has very few explanations and was perplexing but we will have to be good to once again look forward and do what we can with our resources.”
