Fiorentina midfielder Mati Fernandez has revealed that he’s happy to be doing well with the Viola and believes that his team can secure a third place finish this season.

The 28-year-old had struggled with injury and poor form after arriving at the Gigliati from Sporting Lisbon in 2012, but admits that he has since adapted to life in the Serie A and is excited to be able to help his team have a successful campaign, as they have lost only once in their first six league games thus far.

Fernandez spoke to the Corriere Fiorentino about his current form and Fiorentina’s start to the 2014-15 season, while also commenting on the club’s objectives for the campaign.

“My first year with Fiorentina was difficult,” said the Chilean international. “Playing in Lisbon was very different from playing in Florence.

“I had also suffered from many injuries and I experienced some problems in the new atmosphere. Now, however, I’m happy and I’m doing well.

“Our start to the season? I don’t think the team has played badly. I’m lacking some goals and we drew too much, but we have deserved more.

“Objectives? This team is strong and we know that we can secure a third place finish. Hopefully it will be a good season.”
