Former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia has stated that he had smooth relations with the club board members as he turned down a new contract to become a free agent.

The 32-year-old was released by the Rossoneri during this summer and is yet to join another football club. However, Amelia has received offers from various clubs both in Italy and abroad but he feels the right one has not arrived yet.

“In recent months there have been some offers from abroad and from Italian clubs,” said the former Roma player to Sky Sport Italia.

“But it all ended in a stalemate not because of an economic problem.”

Despite not playing for a club, Amelia seems to be quite a busy personality as he runs a sports club and is spending quality time with his family.

“Unemployed is a big word. Well, I’m at home and my family is around me.

“I run a sports club and I have fun with the boys although playing football is completely another thing.”

The goalkeeper was then questioned if there was a break down in talks between him and the club during contract negotiations.

“Absolutely not.I have a great relationship with [Adriano] Galliani and [Silvio] Berlusconi. Last November there was contact offer which we discussed and I informed the club that I would not renew it.” he continued.

“I wish you all the best Milan, we parted as friends.”

Amelia won the league title with both Roma and Milan and was also a part of the 2006 World Cup winning squad.
