Outgoing Inter honorary president Massimo Moratti could be about to make a swift return to Serie A on the board at Cagliari.

Moratti has only recently relinquished his role as honorary president with Inter following Erick Thohir’s take over in 2013, having been president since 1995.

Despite Moratti’s undeniable connections to the Nerazzurri, one of his companies has it’s headquarters in Cagliari, Sardinia. Current Cagliari owner Tommaso Giulini, himself a former director at Inter, added weight to the rumours during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

I just hope that with time he will come to Cagliari,” Giulini stated. “After all he is attached to this land with his business interests.

“Massimo Moratti has a passion and a special relationship with the environment.”

If the rumours prove to be true, Moratti may well have company at the Stadio Comunale Sant’Elia in the shape of another ex Inter director, Marco Branca.

Tuttomercatoweb.com are reporting that the former Inter player-turned-director, who left the San Siro in January, could also be about to link up with Giulini in some capacity by early next year.

Branca, who started his career at Cagliari, had one of the most successful spells of his career at Inter during 1996-98, scoring 23 goals in 52 games.
