Genoa captain and defender Luca Antonelli has said that the players are annoyed at the Grifone fans who have been whistling the team.

The 27-year-old said the group remain happy however and are all united behind coach Gian Piero Gasperini and expect to play well in their next Serie A fixture away at Chievo.

“The whistles? They’re annoying, even if they come from a minority of fans,” said Antonelli to Il Secolo XIX.

“There’s a need to regroup, the crowd should give us a big helping hand when we play at home.”

“Gaseperini? We’re a calm group, we are all with our coach.

The defender also spoke about how honoured he feels to be Genoa’s captain and his form.

“To be a captain in Serie A is a dream, to be one at Genoa means even more,” he continued.

“I haven’t had a good start like last season but I’m working to return to the levels I was at last year.”

Antonelli insiste that the Grifone will be impressive when they head to Verona to take on Chievo.

“In Verona we will play a great game.”

Genoa are currently 10th in Serie A after seven games.
