Genoa have insisted that Monday evening’s Serie A fixture against Empoli will go ahead as planned despite the damaged suffered by the Stadio Luigi Ferraris during the recent flooding in Genoa.

The Northern port was hit by devastating flash floods last weekend which left one man dead and caused a massive amount of damage to the city centre.

There were doubts over whether the Rossoblu would be able to host their league match but it now appears the game will go ahead.

“Genoa and Empoli will be played as scheduled on Monday (20:45),” read a statement issued on the clubs official website.

“A few days ago there were doubts about the game given the damage caused by water and mud, which have invaded the premises on the one hand, destroyed the furniture and knocked out electrical systems and control units.”

“It’s taken an extraordinary effort on the part of skilled personnel to restore conditions of security and begin the cleaning work that will last for weeks.”

“Yesterday, a test was performed on the two generators and related simulations: the results have been positive.”

Genoa currently sit eleventh in the table with 8 points from the opening 6 rounds.
