Hellas Verona have  strongly condemned the sporting judge’s decision to fine the club and close the Curva Sud for racist chants directed at AC Milan’s Sulley Muntari.

The club have released a press statement that disputes the official account of events and denies that monkey noises were directed at Muntari and announces the organisation’s intent to stand by their fans in no uncertain terms.

“We maintain that the television footage is sufficient to categorically refute the most untruthful allegations that have been thrown at a glorious club and a glorious fan base,” began the statement on the club’s official website.

“In over 110 years over of history, nobody has dared to do so much.

“Today is like in the case in January with [Pablo] Armero from the Hellas Verona v Napoli game last January 12 (another grotesque reconstruction of the facts, let’s remember that well).

“Our club, our supporters, our city are being tarred with a label that is untrue.

“The three gentlemen of the Federal Prosecutor’s office have the grave responsibility of having written the report that was sent to the sporting judge.

“The club has already requested that we be re-compensated as a matter of urgency off the back of this news that has left us indignant and angry.”

The club expressed their anger that the judgement came out of the blue in their eyes with no news emerging of racism immediately after the game:

“To state that there were 3,000 (THREE THOUSAND!) taking part in chants that were defined as racist leaves our club puzzled and angry about the action taken by and accounted for by the representatives of the Federal Prosecutor.

“No representative of the Police, no fans at the stadium, not AC Milan, no journalists and not Muntari reported that they heard anything that could prove a serious incident after the game.

“Before a showdown of this magnitude we have one thing to say:

“WE ARE WITH OUR FANS!

“WE ARE ALONE AGAINST EVERYBODY!’

The Gialloblu then followed the statement with a serious of videos that they believe prove that Muntari was not the victim of racist chanting during the game on October 19.
