Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes that the fate of his team’s Champions League campaign this season depends on the result in their return match against Roma.

The Citizens were only able to secure a 1-1 draw with the Giallorossi at home on Tuesday and the 28-year-old admits that he’s doing his best to remain confident despite the Premier League side’s inconsistent performance.

Kompany spoke to the press on Wednesday about Manchester City’s poor showing throughout the game with Roma and insisted that the English club’s advancement to the next stage of the Champions League will most likely be determined by their second match with the Lupi on December 10, given City can secure wins in their other group stage meetings.

“We are disappointed with yesterday’s performance because we did not show our true quality,” said the Belgian international.

“We could have had a better performance, but nothing is lost yet. We’re playing in a difficult group, in the next double challenge between Roma and Bayern Munich, at least one of the two sides will lose points.

“For us, everything will be decided in the return match against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, but first we have to take all six points in our meetings with CSKA Moscow.”
