Gonzalo Higuain Napoli v MilanEnglish giants Liverpool and Arsenal are ready to step up their efforts to sign Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The 26 year old Argentinian international has been uncharacteristically goal-shy this term, failing to net in the league, but that has not deterred interest from two of England’s biggest clubs.

The Daily Express report that Liverpool are unhappy with the output of Mario Balotelli and are ready to offload him only six months after joining the club to fund a move for Higuain.

Meanwhile talk of Arsenal’s Lukas Podolski leaving the club and the long term injury of Olivier Giroud means that Arsenal may have to dip into the transfer market once more.

It is being reported that the two clubs may enter a 40 million bidding war to entice the striker to their clubs in the January transfer window.
