Lazio president Claudio Lotito believes that the Aquilotti possess the quality needed to compete for a top spot in the Serie A and admits that coach Stefano Pioli has been doing a good job since his arrival over the summer.

The Biancocelesti sit in third place in the league standings after their 1-1 away draw with Hellas Verona on Thursday and the 57-year-old has insisted that the capital city club can achieve great success this season if they can continue in their current form.

Lotito spoke to Mediaset Premium following the draw with Hellas Verona about Lazio’s performance against their hosts and praised Pioli for what he’s been able to do at the club thus far, while also commenting on the possibility of bringing new players in during the upcoming January transfer window.

“This game could have taken a different turn, but at the end of the day we were penalised in some incidents,” said the Lazio chief.

“Lazio in third place? In my opinion we have a complete team that can compete on par with all of the other teams. Football, however, is made of certain incidents, and matches that depend on these things can happen like tonight.

“It’s just a part of football, but if we continue like this then we will be able to take away great satisfaction from this season.

“Pioli? I signed him because I wanted to begin a new cycle. I believe in his quality. Rome is a difficult place but he is keeping the right profile.

“Transfer market? First it had been said that we have too many players and we don’t believe that we have enough room for any new purchases.

“However, we do monitor the market 24 hours a day and I do not exclude the possibility that there will be other dealings.”
