Empoli forward Massimo Maccarone wants his team to remain positive and stayed focused on their next match after suffering a heavy defeat to Cagliari on Saturday.

The Azzurri fell 4-0 to the Isolani at home and the 35-year-old has revealed that he’s now only concentrating on helping his club make up for their poor performance by doing well in their upcoming game with Sassuolo on Tuesday, though he still insists that the hosts gave their all against the Rossoblu.

Maccarone spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the loss to Cagliari about the attitude adjustments Empoli must make following the negative result and praised the fans for their continuous support, while also commenting on the current Serie B season.

“There is little to say,” said the former Siena man. “Everything went crazy after their first goal, then all of the others came quickly after.

“We’ll be back on the field in three days, so after a defeat like this there is little to say. Now we must pick ourselves up and regain our strength mentally because losing 1-0 or 4-0 changes little.

“Our fans are understanding, we’ve secured excellent results in recent years and they know that, despite this bad day, we still gave everything.

“We appreciate this support very much, we will try not to repeat these mistakes.

“Regrettably some games are just born this way and end badly. This also recently happened to Roma against Bayern Munich.

“When I went back to the changing room I told the team that we will win against Sassuolo.

“Serie B? It’s a tough season for everyone. The initial phase has proven to be tough for all of the teams. Palermo had a bad start last year but then came success.

“So from my point of view, Bologna and Catania will find success as the season progresses.”
