Dries Mertens NapoliThe brother of Napoli legend Diego Maradona says his sibling has confided in him that his former club are negotiating a deal to be sold to Qatari sheikhs.

Hugo Maradona, himself a former player who spent some time in the peninsula with Ascoli, would not say whether a deal is close to being reached but acknowledged that discussions are taking place.

When interviewed by Cronache di Napoli, he said: “Diego knows for sure that there is a negotiation between [Aurelio] Di Laurentiis and a sheikh of Qatar for the sale of Napoli.

“I would be happy to see such a thing, I believe Diego would too, because a sheikh taking over at Napoli could be important. At this moment, I cannot say whether and agreement has been reached.

However, I do know that there has been contact and talks.”

It is being alleged that De Laurentiis is requesting €400 million for the club but this is a figure that the interested party deem as too high.

The first offer made for the Partenopei is thought to be in the region of €150m, according to Hugo Maradona, and one of €250m could now be tabled as both parties do want a deal to be done.
