Former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia has expressed his intent to play a dual role under his new club in the Promozione league, the sixth tier of Italian football.

The former Italian international became a free agent in the summer of 2014 when his contract with Milan expired, but has taken up a new role as the honorary president of Rocco Priora, a small club just outside of Frascati, the goalkeeper’s hometown.

Speaking to Sportmediaset, Amelia announced his desire to continue playing football, even while serving as the sporting director of the club.

“I will carry out the role of technical director on the first team,” the 32-year-old said. “Then I’ll also go on the bench along with the boys.

“In fact, I’ll do even more: I have decided to formalise my player membership with the club.”

Rocco Priora are fifth in group C of their league, and have conceded a leaky 14 goals in seven games, perhaps prompting the player to put his gloves back on.
